Scrap Buster #3 - The On-the-Go Wallet

This little gem will hold all kinds of important information - from driver's license to a Starbucks gift card! Even if you're 'on-the-go' you can make this perfect little wallet in no time.

Here is what you'll need:

7" x 14" piece of fabric for the front

7" x 14" piece of fabric for the lining

7" x 14" piece of Fusible Fleece

1" piece of Velcro

Pen, ruler and 7" x 14" piece of paper for pattern

Here's how to make it:

  • Create the pattern as shown in the diagram below.

  • Press the Fusible Fleece to the wrong side of the front fabric. Let cool.

  • Quilt as desired. (front only)

  • Place the front fabric and the lining fabric right sides together and pin.

  • Cut all layers around the pattern.

  • Stitch a generous 1/8" around the outside of the wallet leaving a 3" space on the bottom of the wallet. Clip the corners.

  • Turn wallet right side out, pushing out corners to a point. Pin and press flat.

  • Top stitch a generous 1/8" around the outside edge of the wallet. You can machine stitch the opening closed when doing the top stitching or you can hand sew it closed prior to top stitching.

  • Center the Velcro Loop side on the front of the angled side from side to side. it should be 1/2" from the bottom. Stitch the velcro in place.

  • Center the Velcro Hook side on the lining side of the flap. It should be 1/4" from the top edge of the flap. Make sure it is centered side to side and will cover the Velcro Loop side on the angled fold. Stitch in place.

  • Fold the wallet correctly and stitch a generous 1/8" around the sides and the bottom of the wallet. ALL DONE!

This is a great way to wrap up a gift card for birthdays - or any occasion. You can use them to hold just a few cards if you don't want to carry a purse or a large wallet!

Quilt with joy!
