Scrap Buster #6
We all like to have accessories that are unique to us! Here is a great way to make a Key Fob that can be all yours - or individualized to anyone! These are simple to make and don't take a lot of time. They make great stocking stuffers, a little thank-you gift or just for fun!
Here is what you'll need to make them:
12" of colored 1" to 1 1/4" webbing
one key fob hardware (these can be found online or in craft and hobby stores.)
12" x 1 1/4"" (or 1") strip of your favorite fabric
OR
3/4" or 1" ribbon
If you are using fabric to embellish your key fob start by cutting the strip the same width as your webbing. Then stitch it WRONG SIDES TOGETHER with an 1/8" seam allowance along the 12" side.
Lay the tube you just created on the pressing board and press flat with the seam open and in the center of the tube.
Center the pressed tube on the webbing. Pin and stitch as close to the edge of the tube as possible. Trim any extra fabric that extends beyond the webbing. Fold the webbing in half. Stay stitch the short ends together.
Insert the short edges into the open hardware piece. With the hardware and webbing on a table, cover the top of the metal hardware with a small piece of wood and tap it closed with a rubber mallet.
It's really that simple. You can have multiples of these made in no time! They make great little gifts and you can use this technique (with different hardware, of course) to make it longer for a leash or collar for your favorite pet!
Quilt with joy!
